Traveling While Boujee: Introduction

IMG_0256.JPG

I will admit it. I'm a travel snob. Traveling while boujee will be your go- to travel blog series featuring my fortunate and not so fortunate experiences while traveling and some of the traveling tricks I've learned along the way.

First off, I'd like to thank my Delta million miler mother for raising my expectations for not only the airlines I fly with but the people around me. It all started years ago the first time she gifted me my first class seat to Seattle during my college internship. She created the traveling while boujee monster you see before you today.

Yes, I am the annoyed person behind you in the security line rolling my eyes after security yells at you for forgetting to take your shoes off. Next time you're at the airport take a quick glance around and try and spot the people who fly often versus the people who don't. A few giveaways could include the following:

Experienced travelers most likely have their ID & boarding pass out ready to go.

Non- experienced travelers scramble for their ID as they approach the airport security. (What were you doing the entire time you waited in the line?)

Experienced travelers ( most have TSA pre-check, but if they don't this would be applicable) layer their laptop on the top of their carry on so that it's easily accessible when having to take it out.

Non experienced travelers unpack their already poorly packed suitcase in order to pull out their electronic device (I've seen panties fly out of suitcases).

You see where I'm going with this, right?

I know we're all human. I myself have had to beg people in security to let me thru so I didn't miss my flight. I've also had to snap back at a lady for getting an attitude at me for having TSA pre- check. I've missed a flight and sprinted thru the airport. It wasn't until today...literally today that I realized the key to airport travel.

Arrive with time to spare.

It's so simple. So stress free. I'm writing this over a glass of rose at the bar and have another 30 minutes until boarding.

Even during occasions when I thought I had plenty of time to spare, I've still ended up missing the flight due to an Uber cancelling on me or just NY traffic. Just leave 30 minutes sooner than you think you should leave, and you will thank me later. Your entire mental space will be clearer, and you will be so much more relaxed than you ever thought you could be at an airport.

I took my time in security and had more patience for those around me. Today, I was the kind person letting a trifling man skip me in line so that he wouldn't miss his flight. I grinned as he shuffled past me only to get told after putting his belongings in the security conveyor belt that he had to take his shoes off. He then attempted to throw his dirty ass shoes in the basket containing my Mackage leather jacket until looking at my face and realizing some not so nice words would be exiting my mouth shortly after he did this.

Moving on....

I use my Delta miles credit card for everything travel related. This day and age I don't understand how some 20 something year olds have credit cards without mileage benefits. As long as you are paying off your balance at the end of each bill cycle in full, you're letting free miles/ flights go to waste.

My two recommendations are the Delta Amex or the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Both offer bonus mile incentives post sign up after spending a certain amount in the first 3 months or so. That could easily be your Christmas flight home people....

In conclusion, your two traveling while boujee lessons today are, 1) Take your trifling behind to the airport early & 2) Get yourself a skymiles benefits credit card.

Stay tuned for your continued doses of Traveling While Boujee..
